Insight Now Talk about issues in the news
Old School, new _____?
Marc Sanchez
I live near an elementry school, and after a quiet summer with no crossing guards waiving their flags or busses humming down my block, I was looking forward to the buzz of kids filing in for their first week of school. The problem is, the school in my neighborhood has been shuttered.
It's a great looking building with ivy crawling up its red brick walls, and it would be a shame to see it bulldozed. Brainerd turned an old junior high into an arts co-op. A YWCA now stands where West High School used to be in Minneapolis.
What are some creative uses you have seen or would like to see in the revitalization of closed schools?
